Practice Filming (Week 7)

Week 7
The BM side suggested some real life place to film, we discussed together in our group chat and our animation side decide it was best if we go to the recommended places to check if it's suitable for filming. On Monday morning, we went to haji lane and explored the secluded alleyways.





For now, most of us preferred the alleyway opposite Green Apple Spa, because its the least crowded and most spacious area. Furthermore, the wall's color can make the background to look more lively. However, the main concern is that there's usually a lot of vehicles parked there, which can be troublesome, and we will have to bring our own props since there's not many objects around. For instance, the other areas have plastic chairs, plant pots, boxes and crates that we can borrow for filming.

Anyways, we'll make the best out of it if we can't find any other suitable places.
After that, in Unreal Engine class, I learn how to import real life HDR background image and lighting into Unreal. My lecturer also taught us how make the textures and materials to fit with the imported lighting, and how to make realistic fog.
On Wednesday, we tested out some of our shots and the BM was in charged with the lighting and filming process. We helped them in setting up the green screen and trackers, I also give them my feedbacks and opinions on camera movements and the shot types. We went to the Creative Cube, which is a room where there's green screen floor for long shot types, but it was still difficult to see the full character body since the camera have to move way back. In the end, we all agreed that today is just film testing, and we will begin to shoot for real on week 9, after project week. The BM offered to find a suitable live actor for our film, and say that they'll try to find more areas for real life filming.


For our side, we'll have to submit the treatment and animatic for project week. Right now, we are done with the storyboard and just need the animatic. We aim to finish the clown model and UV texturing on week 8.
